Mallery-Sayre honored by national association

The American Dental Hygi-enists’ Association has named Laura A. Mallery-Sayre, RDH, MSDHEd, of Kailua-Kona, as the 19th recipient of the 2007 Alfred C. Fones Award. This award is equivalent to ADHA’s lifetime achievement award.

The award recognizes a current association member who has contributed significantly to the profession of dental hygiene. The nominees had 25 years of cumulative ADHA membership, association leadership experience, received other dental hygiene awards, participation both in the community and with other allied health professions, authorship and political involvement.

Mallery-Sayre is the first dental hygienist from Hawaii to receive this honor and was presented the award during the opening ceremonies at ADHA’s 84th annual session June 22 in New Orleans.

A past president — having served two terms — of the Virginia Dental Hygienists’ Association as well as a past president — having served three terms — of the Hawaii Dental Hygienists’ Association, Mallery-Sayre has also served ADHA as a delegate or alternate for 18 terms; she has served on many committees. She also currently serves as the ADHA state education liaison for Hawaii and as the Hawaii liaison to the ADHA Institute of Oral Health.

Along with her many ADHA commitments, Mallery-Sayre practices as a clinical dental hygienist and office manager in a general practice that specializes in aesthetic and implant dentistry with her husband, Frank Sayre, DDS.

Boat brokerage among fastest growing firms

Already named one of Hawaii’s 50 fastest growing companies four times since 2000, Pacific Boats and Yachts LLC continued the steady growth of its boat and yacht sales and consulting businesses again last year, garnering yet another Hawaii’s Fastest 50 Award, according to Rick Gaffney, the firm’s owner and managing broker.

“Despite a declining economy, we’re pleased that our team of dedicated yacht brokers and boating experts has been able to continue to grow our business,” Gaffney said.

As part of its aggressive business growth strategy, the company actively participates in local, national and international boating industry events. The company also continues to establish strong sales relationships with top manufacturers and brokerages in and outside Hawaii, to help add to its portfolio of products.

Demonti promoted to wedding, events specialist

Kona Village Resort has promoted Vidal Demonti to the newly named position of Wedding and Event Specialist.

In announcing Demonti’s promotion, General Manager Ulrich Krauer said the weddings market is an important and growing business segment for Kona Village Resort; one that requires unique skills. Having an on-site person dedicated to the success of every wedding ensures that weddings at the resort will become lasting memories for each and every couple.

Demonti was the resort’s restaurant manager prior to this recent promotion. Before joining Kona Village Resort more than a year ago, he held management positions at Honolulu’s award-winning Halekulani Hotel, the Hyatt Regency Waikiki and the Sheraton Waikiki hotel.

As wedding and event specialist at Kona Village Resort, Demonti will be the point of contact for couples seeking to tie the knot at any one of dozens of locations available at the resort such as an island in the ancient Hawaiian fishponds or oceanfront on the beach beneath a lei-draped gazebo. Demonti also will assist with marriage licensing, flowers, musicians, clergy, champagne toasts and gala receptions. Added responsibilities include any number of specialty events the resort may host, which could include catered dinners for family reunions, themed banquets for corporate retreats or anniversary or vow-renewal celebrations.
